About the tour

The Guardian and National Geographic have declared it one of the most beautiful commercial bookstores in the world, and they are right! El Ateneo-Grand Splendid is a unique bookstore because it is inside an old and restored 1919 theatre and broadcasting station. Join me to discover this fascinating place and also to learn about its history as well as a taste of Argentinean literature.

Meet FabianBA

FabianBA

Almost a decade ago, Fabian kickstarted his career as a tour guide after leaving a cushiony corporate role as an HR Manager. Since then, he has enjoyed spinning exciting stories to travelers and taking them through one of the most European cities of Latin America. Through his lens, you will discover the city that's home to the widest avenue, the widest river, and brimming with people who love football. Buenos Aires was a British colony for a little over a month, but it carries with it a hint of different cultures. "Argentineans are Italians who speak Spanish but they think they live in France!" Fabian laughs. Through his tours, you might hear him sing a tango (or humming to U2’s “With or Without You”), learn a couple of magic tricks (fun fact: he's an amateur magician!), and check out yerba mate, a super healthy herbal tea that's a local popularity. "Being a tour guide is a bit like a teacher, and I enjoy telling stories. Buenos Aires is full of stories, bizarre, strange, hard to believe stories," he says.

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We’re travelling to Buenos Aires with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you’ll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing content creator.

The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your content creator directly from Buenos Aires. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.

The majority of your tip goes directly to support the channel, while the rest helps Heygo continue to build a place that brings the world closer together.

Fabian is a wealth of knowledge and passionate about giving tourists a memorable experience in Buenos Aires. The only regret you’ll have is missing this tour. Many opportunities for taking photos from the comfort of your lounge. You’ll love this trip.

As with my last review, this is for the two tours "The Bookstore and Argentina and the UK: An Upside down relationship" Both tours were excellent and well presented. The second tour was very informative about the relationship between Argentina and the UK. There were a few historical facts that I did not know about, especially the early years of the relationship. It will be good to meet up in November to talk more about the relationship in person Fabian, Covid permitting that is. Thank you very much for two brilliant and informative tours today Fabian.
