In the Northern part of the Netherlands, we will find a tiny and beautiful village, also known as “the Venice of Holland” or the “Venice of the North”. There are no cars or roads here; all visitors leave them out of the village and have to travel by water or on foot over the lovely wooden bridges. We will take an electrical boat (whisper boat) to sail over the small canals and you will see beautiful 200-year-old thatched-roof farmhouses, small wooden bridges, clean gardens and vivid flowers. It will feel like floating in a fairy tale, very peaceful and serene. The loudest sound you can normally hear in Giethoorn is the quacking of a duck or the noise made by another bird.
Stephan is a real Dutchie, he was born in Delft (the city of Vermeer), grown up in Gouda (the cheese city), studied in Leiden (city of Rembrandt) and he lived in Rotterdam (the harbour city) before moving to our capital Amsterdam in 2006. After a career in technology as an Online Strategist, he decided to leave behind the corporate world to start guiding visitors of Amsterdam and started his own private tour agency, Amsterdam Experiences. That’s when he discovered that walking and cycling around the city with international visitors is a lot more fun than a desk job! As a guide, Stephan loves to show his virtual guests the hidden gems of Amsterdam through the eyes of a local. He has a passion for telling stories about Dutch history and culture. Stephan is very enthusiastic about the Netherlands and also guides tours in Delft, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Gouda, Leiden and Den Hague. Stephan’s tours cover a wide range of topics, whether that be sensitively tackling difficult subjects, such as Anne Frank and Jewish history of Amsterdam. However, he is equally comfortable being spontaneous, whether visiting goats in a goat farm to riding his orange flowerbike around with the flowerbike man himself. Stephan also now has tours in Belgium, covering Antwerp, Bruges and Ghent. So join him on the bike or by foot, and see the highlights of the Netherlands or even perhaps Belgium.
Get ready for something special. We’re travelling to Giethoorn with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you’ll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing content creator.
The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your content creator directly from Giethoorn. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!
While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.
We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.
The majority of your tip goes directly to support the channel, while the rest helps Heygo continue to build a place that brings the world closer together.
Reserve your spot by selecting a time to book. Once done, you’ll be able to see your reservations on your Trips page and we’ll send you an email confirmation with a link to join the tour.

What a unique glimpse of this town. Stephen’s boat glided through a charming place as he regaled us with facts and fun tales about this place. I had a lot of fun!

Another wonderful trip to Giethoorn. It didn’t matter that the sun wasn’t shining, the village looked stunning in its own lamplight. Thanks for taking us back in your little boat.

I love Giethoorn! Through Stephan and Heygo it has become one of my top dream destinations. This is the second tour of this canal village and there were many more ducks and berries and less boat traffic this time. Stephan was full of jokes and information as usual and always gives us the best shots for postcards.
