Midway between Nice and Monaco, Villefranche has long been regarded as one of the jewels of the Côte d’Azur and it has regularly been used as a film location for everything from James Bond to Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and recently the tv show Riviera. Join Tim as he leads you on a tour of its medieval streets, glorious restaurant studded seafront and introduces you to the historic Welcome Hotel and the characters who have stayed here down the years. From Madonna to Elton John (who has a house here) Scott Fitzgerald to Jean Cocteau, few have failed to be mesmerised by the town and its incredible bay. Tim, as usual, has all the stories.
Tim is a writer and performer who has lived near Nice, France for the past fifteen years. He has written successful plays about people like Quentin Crisp and Julie Burchill. His books include Rude Britannia, a tour of the Highways and Bi Ways of British Sex. He has also written a biography of Quentin Crisp and a highly successful book on playwriting. He regularly Vlogs about life on the French Riviera and is fascinated by tales of this magical stretch of coastline, often dubbed ‘a sunny place for shady people.’
