About the tour

Venice is one of the most loved cities in the world, always fascinating, but it’s at night that it gives its best, mixing romance and mystery. The light mirroring over the water of the canals, the sound of your steps in the deserted calli, the palaces that stand out in the middle of the dark, offer a completely new experience, much different from what you can have during the day, with a lot of opportunities to take wonderful unforgettable postcards. Strolling with a local along the Grand Canal we will reach the Rialto area, the oldest part of the town and cross the Rialto Bridge, we will see then the opera house, La Fenice, rebuilt “as it was where it was” after it was completely destroyed by fire for the second time, and finish the tour in the “drawing room” of Europe, St.Mark’s Square, with its wonderful Basilica, the clocktower, the Campanile, the “owner of the house” as Venetians call it and the imposing Palazzo Ducale.

Meet your local guide

Andrea

Andrea might be one of Venice's most entertaining tour guides. Why do we say that? Well, you don't have to look far to see him jamming out on his guitar singing songs in the Venetian dialect. “I like to introduce myself as a tour guide, a freelance journalist, and a real Venetian (one of the few that has remained),” he says fondly. He loves music and has played with Italy’s most popular reggae singer, and performed in front of a massive crowd of 15,000 people during the carnival at St. Mark’s Square. He tries to mix information, historical facts, and funny quirks about the city into his tours. “There’s a lot about the city that people don’t know. There are words they use that come from Venice (ciao, ghetto, ballot, quarantine), and objects and inventions (the first pair of glasses, the first pocketbook). Even when people write, they use punctuations that were first used in a book here,” he remarks. He likes to think of his tours like a small show - with a bit of music, some rhythm, and sometimes with an experience down the Grand Canal with a gondola. So make sure to have your drinks and snacks ready for your time with Andrea! “I’m so lucky to live in a city like Venice that has so much to offer, above all “under the surface” of the most famous places to visit. I’m eager to know more and more about my city, and I know that people feel my passion in sharing my hometown with them,” Andrea says.

Lovely tour, seeing Venice at night. Interesting to see what is dark and what is illuminated when going through the city. A bit eerie during the pandemic with not many people around. Thanks Andrea for an interesting tour.

A lovely tour which brought back many happy memories for a number of the ‘voyagers’. Fascinating to see Venice quiet and romantic. As always, Andrea was knowledgeable and entertaining and his pride in his unique city of birth shone through. Thank you
