About the tour

See a huge tulip field of about 4 million tulip flowers in bloom with me in April. Mark will meet you in the Beemster Polder, an area of typical Dutch countryside and a UNESCO world heritage site. This was the first big lake drained by the Dutch to make farmland in 1612. So it lies about 5 metres below sea level! Mark will explain why and how they did this (short answer, windmills). The tulip field is nestled right by the bank of the lake and your guide can walk you along and through the glorious rows of tulips that stretch into the distance. There are whole blocks of different colours including his favourite tulip, the Tompoes, that's one with a yellow base and pink top. Besides showing you all the different types and colours and lots of postcard opportunities, Mark will talk about and show how they are planted and why it is done that way, how they are harvested, sorted and sold. Your guide will touch on the history of the tulip and how it made its way to Holland and became such an iconic Dutch flower as well as telling the story of Tulip Mania, the first stock market bubble in 1637. And then Mark will show you more tulips - and his clogs - and more tulips! Disclaimer: Many more tulip field dates will be added. We just have to wait and see how warm or cold the spring is to see when the flowers bloom. The lovely tulips in the picture above are the earliest to come into flower and as soon as they are about to come into bloom, many more dates will be added. Mark - That Dam Guide

Mark has been sharing places and stories about Amsterdam, his adopted home, for 10 years now and he is still smitten by the place! He absolutely loves distilling chunks of history into bite-sized bits of fun. The vibrancy of the city takes his breath away, and he loves finding odd little details to share. Live-streaming tours are an exciting adventure as it is possible to open places and areas that are not accessible on in-person tours!

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We’re travelling to Amsterdam with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you’ll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing content creator.

The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your content creator directly from Amsterdam. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.

The majority of your tip goes directly to support the channel, while the rest helps Heygo continue to build a place that brings the world closer together.

After 3 deferrals of this tour due to extremely stubborn tulips, I was so excited to be visiting the tulip farm finally. Extra special thanks to Mark and his helpful assistant Erich for braving thunderstorms and mud in order to deliver Tulips from Amsterdam, both visually and vocally, as a wonderful end to Mother's Day in Australia. The flowers were beautiful! 🙂❤💐

The rains did not dampen Mark's spirits of presenting us the splendid views of the tulip farm. I learned a great deal and Mark ended with a surprise tulip song played from a hand-cranked gramophone accompanied by his song and dance. What a treat to learn so much about the beloved tulips and have fun, as well. Thank you to Mark and his fabulous partner for presenting this unique tour. Bravo
