Thessaloniki, known also as Thessalonica, Saloniki or Salonica is the second largest city of Greece after its capital, Athens and had so far, many titles such as “the Bride of the Thermaic Gulf”, “The Mother of Israel”, “co-capital”, “Romantic” etc. Thessaloniki embraces the Thermaic Gulf and the approximately 4,5 km of promenade from the city Port to the Concert Hall gives to the city an amazing and lively atmosphere not only because of its emblematic buildings, the ancient monuments, the statues, the parks, the modern art sculptures but also because of the people of all ages enjoying themselves in different ways. Pedestrians walk in a slow pace, bike and scooter riders on the bicycle lane, street musicians, performers, fishermen fishing, food and beverage vendors, others enjoying a drink in one of the several floating café-bars and many more! And all this with a splendid view of Mount Olympus (if weather permits) and admiring the colors of the unique sunsets. A newcomer or not, the very first MUST to do in the city of Thessaloniki is “volta stin paralia” which is a stroll in the waterfront, a local tradition!! Walk with Maria and feel the atmosphere!!

Very interesting tour to a large, waterfront city that I know of only from biblical references. I especially liked the umbrella sculpture all lit up in the evening....in the rain.

Maria's tour was very interesting and informative. In spite of bad weather, she showed us some great sights, I got lots of postcards. I also learned a lot of history of the area - it was fascinating!

If the history of Greece & this city is your thing, Maria is a wealth of information. There isn't as much to see on this tour but the surprise at the end is worth waiting for.
