About the tour

The Whyte Museum in Banff is a premier venue that, not only houses museum displays but has one of the largest collections of artifacts and documents in Alberta, Canada. The Whytes were extremely talented artists who for decades painted Banff, the Rockies, and many other parts of the world. They also collected works by other talented artists, which fill the galleries of this wonderful museum. On this tour, I will also take you to the gallery dedicated to artifacts of the Native People and Europeans who settled in the area. The museum collects, preserves, and exhibits materials related to the cultural heritage of the Rocky Mountains of Canada, making them available for education as well as research. Banff is so much more than just nature!

Meet Pamela

Pamela’s passion for the natural world was honed by her work at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, where countless field trips informed her expertise of birds, animals, insects, frogs, geology, plants, and trees. Since moving to Canada, Pamela has immersed herself in a totally different environment, but one she’s no less passionate about. When not outdoors, her nose is typically in a book, learning more about the world beyond her incredible backyard. Which is exactly what she provides for others on her tours; a deep knowledge of a place like few others on earth, letting Heygoers like you understand and appreciate Banff the way she does.

Never quite sure what to expect on an indoor museum tour. But this was fantastic! I discovered new artists, learned a lot about the history of Banff, mountaineering, trains… and who knew the history of mountaineering could be so fascinating? And all delivered in Pamela’s wonderful manner. I always knew I’d go to Banff in a minute for her outdoor walks but the Whyte Museum just made a visit even more important!
