About the tour

Amsterdam's most famous girl is Anne Frank. Every year millions of people are coming to Amsterdam to see where she lived and hid during WW2. In this virtual tour, I will take you around the area of the hiding place. You will see the famous Westerkerk, the outside of the house where Anne and her family were hiding for over 2 years and the beautiful Prinsengracht. We will learn about Anne, the hiding place, what she could see from the hiding place and the influence her story had on people in the Netherlands and the rest of the world. Rather than a somber story of loss and sorrow, this trip is also about tolerance and hope, because, as Anne wrote: "Don’t think of all the misery, but of all the beauty that still remains." Note: We will not enter the secret annex. it is not allowed to do guided tours inside the Anne Frank House

Meet your local guide

Stephan is a real Dutchie, he was born in Delft (the city of Vermeer), grown up in Gouda (the cheese city), studied in Leiden (city of Rembrandt) and he lived in Rotterdam (the harbour city) before moving to our capital Amsterdam in 2006. After a career in technology as an Online Strategist, he decided to leave behind the corporate world to start guiding visitors of Amsterdam and started his own private tour agency, Amsterdam Experiences. He found out that walking and cycling around the city with international visitors is a lot more fun than a desk job! As a host, Stephan loves to show his virtual guests, the hidden gems in Amsterdam through the eyes of a local. He has a passion for telling stories about Dutch history and culture. So join him on the bike or by foot, and see the highlights of Amsterdam.

Stephan has been guiding since Jul 2016

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We're travelling to Amsterdam with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you'll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing guide.

The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your guide directly from Amsterdam. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your guide and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to book and join, but you have the option to tip the guide during the tour.

Leaving a tip will help support the guides and allow us to offer tours in more places around the world. If you aren't able to leave a tip, then it would be great if you can share the tour with friends and family to spread the word.

I am a docent at the Holocaust Center in Farmington Hills, Michigan. We have a wonderful Ann Frank exhibit and through the full length windows behind it is the Ann Frak garden with a tree from the original chestnut tree. We were very lucky to get it. It was a stick at the beginning but has grown into a gorgeous tree. Thank you for so much good information I can add to my tours! You did a wonderful job!

Having visited Amsterdam and Anne Frank’s house a couple of years ago, this tour was of great interest to me. Thanks Stephan for bringing back memories and for giving me further insight into Anne’s life. Stephan is a great guide and I would recommend any of his tours.

This was a very heartfelt tour. Really touching and Stephan did an incredible job with it. I know bits and bits pieces of Anne Frank's story but he filled in the knowledge gap for me. He really brought her story to life by reading excerpts of Anne's diary. It really spoke to my emotions. Thank you Stephan!
