About the tour

Amsterdam's most famous girl is Anne Frank. Every year millions of people are coming to Amsterdam to see where she lived and hid during WW2. In this virtual tour, I will take you around the area of the hiding place. You will see the famous Westerkerk, the outside of the house where Anne and her family were hiding for over 2 years and the beautiful Prinsengracht. We will learn about Anne, the hiding place, what she could see from the hiding place and the influence her story had on people in the Netherlands and the rest of the world. Rather than a somber story of loss and sorrow, this trip is also about tolerance and hope, because, as Anne wrote: "Don’t think of all the misery, but of all the beauty that still remains." Note: We will not enter the secret annex. it is not allowed to do guided tours inside the Anne Frank House

Meet Stephan

Stephan is a real Dutchie, he was born in Delft (the city of Vermeer), grown up in Gouda (the cheese city), studied in Leiden (city of Rembrandt) and he lived in Rotterdam (the harbour city) before moving to our capital Amsterdam in 2006. After a career in technology as an Online Strategist, he decided to leave behind the corporate world to start guiding visitors of Amsterdam and started his own private tour agency, Amsterdam Experiences. That’s when he discovered that walking and cycling around the city with international visitors is a lot more fun than a desk job! As a guide, Stephan loves to show his virtual guests the hidden gems of Amsterdam through the eyes of a local. He has a passion for telling stories about Dutch history and culture. Stephan is very enthusiastic about the Netherlands and also guides tours in Delft, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Gouda, Leiden and Den Hague. Stephan’s tours cover a wide range of topics, whether that be sensitively tackling difficult subjects, such as Anne Frank and Jewish history of Amsterdam. However, he is equally comfortable being spontaneous, whether visiting goats in a goat farm to riding his orange flowerbike around with the flowerbike man himself. Stephan also now has tours in Belgium, covering Antwerp, Bruges and Ghent. So join him on the bike or by foot, and see the highlights of the Netherlands or even perhaps Belgium.

Stephan is an extremely knowledgeable tour guide. He is also very engaging and welcoming to everyone. This tour was incredibly moving and Stephan told the story of Anne Frank and her family with great compassion. He also read extracts from Anne's diary which were very emotive and explained the important work of the Anne Frank Foundation. I highly recommend the tour.
