About the tour

Seville is a city packed with unexpected surprises. When you walk its old streets and visit centuries-old churches, you'd never guess what awaits around the corner of the Encarnación square: the largest wooden structure in the world finished in 2011. The Metropol Parasol, aptly dubbed by the locals as Las Setas (the Mushrooms), is a wavy, almost surreal platform elevating off six giant pillars, inspired by the huge dimensions of Seville's Cathedral. Your local guide Nicolas will also show you around the old neighborhood of Encarnación, on your way to Salvador Square and the Council House, a 16th-century architectural wonder, full of intricate and grotesque stone carvings. Be ready for epic postcards and hardcore history!

Meet Nicolas

Nicolas

In Seville was he born, a pleasant city, Famous for oranges and women—he Who has not seen it will be much to pity, So says the proverb—and I quite agree Well pity no more, for Nicolas is here to show the wonders of Seville. Like Byron’s Don Juan, he was born and raised by the mighty Guadalquivir, under the shadow of the Giralda. A life-long lover of old books and obscure maps, he traveled the world from Lisbon to Philippines in his younger years, studying the history of the Spanish empire in the Pacific Ocean. He then came back home to sunny Seville and took up the ancient art of story-telling, entertaining travelers from all around the world with tales about poet-kings and honey thieves, orange trees and Manila shawls, lost libraries and wayward nuns. Join him as he guides you through the narrow streets of Seville’s Old Quarter and discover the light and music of this unforgettable city!

I liked how Nicolas truly felt about the mushroom structure when it was first started and how he has changed his opinion. I lost contact after he got into the elevator and missed some of his commentary. That was my fault not his. He did warn us of the lost signal. I didn't understand what the council chamber was but it was really impressive and Nicolas was very proud of it. It was intriguing and his pride was infectious. Good job.
