About the tour

You can't argue about taste. That is why it is not possible to determine objectively what the most beautiful church in the Netherlands is. My choice, however, is the Sint Janskerk in Gouda. This is because of the 72 stained glass windows, some of which are 500 years old. Beautiful paintings and colors. In this tour, we will look at several of these windows. Ton will discuss the images, the makers, and the donors of these windows.

Meet Ton

Ton

After his graduation in social geography, just in between the big bang and the collapse of the Roman empire, Ton worked on a science program for children and on urban planning in Amsterdam. He found out that his happiest moments were those were the interaction was not with the keyboard but with people. This made him decide to make a living out of guiding. Initially related to urban planning and architecture, later on the scope became much wider: art, history, society. As a social geographer Ton always looks for the reasons behind present day reality: why was a town founded? Why did it grow, or not? Why such an enormous church or city hall in a small town? Ton's philosophy about life is rather simple. He believes the sense of being is Sharing LKW: Love, Knowledge, Wine.

Wow! This tour goes beyond the word "beautiful". Ton's choice of which windows to concentrate on, and his explanations of what they illustrate and the stories behind them were absolutely fascinating. What a lovely elegant building and such a privilege to have it to ourselves for our visit.

What an interesting and informative tour. Ton and his wife had prepared the tour very well by having printed a list of all the windows we were to see and having close up pictures of the beautiful stained glass windows. Perhaps the gimble could be turned to portrait to allow us to photograph the whole window? Just an idea. Thank you.

Ton showed us some of the stunning stained glass windows of the Sint Janskerk in Gouda, the Netherlands. He had photographs that allowed us to see the wonderful details, while relating history and biblical stories associated with each window. I appreciated this, and the descriptions of each window, which he had produced so we could take postcards of the information. Thank you for that Ton

Gorgeous church. Hope we can see more of it in the future. Could stare at those stain glass windows for hours. Thank you
