About the tour

Zeniarai Benten Shrine is a popular shrine with a natural spring tucked away in a little valley in Kamakura. The shrine occupies a cave and a miraculous spring flows through its atmospheric interior. This shrine offers a lot more than just a walk around. Legend says that if you wash your money in the spring, it will multiply and come back to you. But, the money washed here must be spent in a good way for it to grow! Eriko will walk you through the fun money-washing ritual step-by-step and share hidden stories of Zeniarai Benten Shrine. Let's explore this beautiful shrine and participate in the ritual while learning the symbolism of Shinto in Japanese culture.

Meet Eriko Shiratori

Eriko Shiratori

Eriko has been sharing her love of Japanese culture with people around the globe since 2017. In her words, Japan is beautiful, unique, and weird all at the same time! She's been lucky to have traveled to dozens of amazing countries and she got a chance to live overseas, in Australia and Canada, for a couple of years. Being exposed to other cultures has given her a new lens to look at her hometown and its traditions. Her great-grandfather was a kimono craftsman in Tokyo, and today she is honoured to wear the kimonos that were passed down through generations. She is looking forward to exploring Japan and sharing a smile with you!

Another delightful tour. I love when you enter the shot to demonstrate. Make sure when you set the tripod to have enough headroom so your head isn't cut from the frame. I would like it if you use the tripod more for stillness of image.

I missed most of this tour but the part I saw was lovely and I learned a lot, I will take it the next time it is offered.
