About the tour

Spain is a country of good weather, good food, and consequently... happy people. Madrid, its capital, is undoubtedly the most vibrant and cosmopolitan city where locals and visitors spontaneously meet in those cozy taverns, romantic cafes and picturesque food markets. Madrid city center is divided in 12 quarters, each one with its own personality with 12 different examples of Spanish gastronomy. Enjoy these Madrid Tapas Cat Crawl! Federico, the cat, will choose 1 emblematic monument in each tour and he will tell you unexpected stories about it. After that just follow his feline footsteps to the most charismatic tavern/café/food market in that quarter to experience “Cañas&Tapas” way to meet friends and enjoy life. Federico, the cat of Madrid. Simply follow his scent.

Meet your local guide

Federico García Barroso

"CATS" in Spain are those people whose ancestors are from this city. People from the same family who were born and raised up in Madrid and several Mamas and Papas who love Tapas. Federico is one of those cats. He is a wonderful storyteller with an extraordinary sense of humour. In his Mamas and Tapas tours you will meet the locals, enjoy and learn about good food and drinks and feel like you are sitting in beautiful local eateries in Madrid enjoying living like a local with an old friend. He also enjoys doing tours for kids & teens. Let yourself be impressed by following his feline footsteps to discover his unique Madrid experiences. Follow this cat's scent through Madrid! (Federico is a National Heritage Guide in Madrid)

Yes Federico is fun he gives you a taster of an aspect of Madrid’s history then he takes us to one of the wonderful authentic bars that can still be found & we join him while he takes a tapa & drink the only sad part is we cannot join him - he has a wealth of knowledge & makes the visit really entertaining along with his black cat & friends - makes an enjoyable evening.

I really enjoyed Federico's first ever Mamas & the Tapas tour, a couple of weeks back, it was like we were there 'bar-hopping' with him. This tour was disappointing, too much of a lecture, and not enough about the tapas. Please go back to your former format, it was excellent!

All was great as well today, except the part were you implied that Colon had something to do with the origin of the word colonize. We must have misunderstood or it got lost in translation. Two down, eleven more to go! Looking forward to all of them and planning my day around your tour.
