About the tour

Cholula is a city that has been inhabited since pre-Hispanic times, according to archaeological evidence dating back 3000 years, and hidden beneath a hill in Cholula, Mexico lies the largest pyramid ever built! Known variously as the Great Pyramid of Cholula, Pirámide Tepanapa, or, in the indigenous Nahuatl language, Tlachihualtepetl, or ‘artificial mountain’, the structure measures 400 by 400 metres and has a total volume of 4.45 million cubic metres, almost twice that of the Great Pyramid of Giza. Starting from what is now known as the center of San Pedro Cholula, we will explore a small part of the city that has been occupied for millennia and we will walk around the Tlachihualtépetl, (handmade hill) which is the largest pyramid in the world in volume. On this trip, we will be able to observe the magnitude of the pyramid as well as some vestiges of ancient buildings.

Fascinating tour around the perimeter of the archeological site of the giant pyramid at Cholula, hidden beneath a mountain and exposed in some places as the dig continues. Ernesto provided a lot of historical information about the area and the pyramid itself. Intriguing. Thank you!

It's a shame we couldn't get closer to the pyramid.
