About the tour

The magnificent 13th century Fountain on the main square of Perugia is a true Medieval Encyclopedia ! A calendar, moral teachings, biblical scenes and much more details tell us about Perugia and the daily life in the Middle Ages. A walk along the main street leads us to the infinite views, admired and described by foreign travelers such as Charles Dickens and Henry James.

Meet Patrizia-Umbria

Patrizia’s our archaeologist-turned-tour guide, who’s had so much fun guiding visitors around the green heart of Italy. Perugia's always ready to throw a surprise. Although the city's not very famous, it doesn't shy away from entertaining its visitors with its stories and breathtaking views. "Perugia during the Umbria Jazz festival is magical! Every day at noon, a New Orleans band marches up and down the main street to get people to dance and follow them to the different free concert venues. Lovely music, and magical atmosphere through the night!" she says. On her tours, you might catch a smatter of different languages - she's a polyglot who speaks 5 languages. "A funny incident was that on a very busy day, I was halfway through my tour in Perugia before it hit me that I was doing it in the wrong language and nobody had dared to interrupt me!" she laughs. “I always try to convey some typical Italian word or proverb ready to be used immediately. Normally by the end of the tour, everyone remembers it and who knows...continues to use it at home!” Her goal as a professional guide is still to surprise the visitors. She almost stumbled into the exciting space of guiding visitors around her city. When she was working as an archaeologist on excavation sites and museums, she enjoyed showing Perugia's beautiful landscape. "And then I got the chance to accompany groups throughout Europe, and decided being a guide was the profession where I could combine my different interests: history, languages and meeting people from all over the world," she quips. As Marcel Proust said: you don't always have to travel to new destinations but you have to look at them with new eyes.

Perugia is a beautiful town with lovely architecture. The old part of the town is situated on a hill so the views of the surrounding parts of the town are wonderful. Patrizia was great with lots of knowledge of the town and the beautiful and meaningful fountain. Highly recommend. Especially if you're planning a trip to Umbria in the future.
