About the tour

Join Emma as she walks round the grounds of Blackness Castle sharing stories, both real and from the silver screen.

Meet your local guide

A Dublin lass, born and bred, Emma came to Scotland via San Francisco, having married a Scotsman. Now resident, with her family, in the Linlithgow area since 2003, she brings a warm Irish hospitality to everyone she meets. Emma runs Mary’s Meanders Tours with Anne Daly & both have been guiding around Central Scotland for 8 years. They are lucky to be based in the historic Royal Burgh of Linlithgow, birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots their namesake. They love sharing the history, stories, and culture of Scotland with their guests including historic fiction, especially Outlander. One of Emma’s highlights of the past few years was when Visit Scotland asked Mary’s Meanders to host Diana Gabaldon the author on an Outlander tour. Join Emma as she transports you to the world of Mary Queen of Scots and the home of Jamie Fraser! With Mary’s Meanders you will “Arrive a visitor, leave a friend”.

Emma has been guiding since Sep 2013

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We're travelling to Central Scotland with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you'll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing guide.

The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your guide directly from Central Scotland. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your guide and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to book and join, but you have the option to tip the guide during the tour.

Leaving a tip will help support the guides and allow us to offer tours in more places around the world. If you aren't able to leave a tip, then it would be great if you can share the tour with friends and family to spread the word.
