About the tour

The Hague (in Dutch Den Haag) is with half a million inhabitants the 3rd largest town of the Netherlands. Since the foundation of the republic in 1579, The Hague has been the political center of the Netherlands. The Parliament is located near an almost 800 years old castle, the so called Hall of Knights, the place where the king reads out the plans of the government for coming year. The king’s palace is just a ten minutes walk from the Hall. The Hague is not only a place of politics, but also of law. From the many institutions on International Law, the one best known world wide, certainly is the International Court of Justice, also known as The Hague Tribunal and the Peace Palace. Through this tour you will get acquainted with the most characteristic buildings of the national government, the work palace of the king and the Peace Palace. Topics: political history of the Netherlands, tasks and rights of the Lower and Upper House, the monarchy, art of the Dutch Masters of the 17th century, history of tolerance and repression, the history and architecture of the buildings we come along.

Meet Ton

Ton

After his graduation in social geography, just in between the big bang and the collapse of the Roman empire, Ton worked on a science program for children and on urban planning in Amsterdam. He found out that his happiest moments were those were the interaction was not with the keyboard but with people. This made him decide to make a living out of guiding. Initially related to urban planning and architecture, later on the scope became much wider: art, history, society. As a social geographer Ton always looks for the reasons behind present day reality: why was a town founded? Why did it grow, or not? Why such an enormous church or city hall in a small town? Ton's philosophy about life is rather simple. He believes the sense of being is Sharing LKW: Love, Knowledge, Wine.
