About the tour

Don’t miss this purrrfect opportunity to visit a unique private art museum devoted exclusively to cats! Housed in an impressive 17th century mansion along Amsterdam’s most prestigious canal, the museum has been the passion project and residence of businessman and bonafide ‘catman’ Bob Meijer since 1990. Expect more than a simple novelty museum, only the highest quality artworks are presented inside. Enjoy etchings by Rembrandt and Picasso, works by famed cat painter Henriette Ronner-Knip, Belle Epoche posters by Toulouse-Lautrec, an Egyptian mummy, and so much more! Historical context will be provided to bring the displayed works to life. Oh, and we’ll no doubt cuddle up to the (real) cats roaming around the museum’s lavish interior and gardens. A must-see for art and cat lovers!

Meet Lee

Lee is a Dutch-Canadian who's worked as a professional guide and boat captain since 2009. Originally trained as a ballet dancer, she left the stage to travel the world, having visited over 100 countries so far, dancing, teaching and volunteering along the way. Among her most memorable experience was an extended tour through North Korea! As much as she loves exploring different cultures around the globe, she's just as happy at home in her favourite city, and can't wait to share with Heygoers all the reasons why Amsterdam is so amazing! Having joined countless tours along her travels and having led over 3,500 tours of her own, Lee has learned what makes a tour unforgettable . Her tours are carefully researched and not only cover detailed Dutch history and culture, but also fun facts, hidden gems, and tips on where to find the best shops, markets and food!

You can't beat a quirky museum, unless it's a quirky museum about cats. Lee really did her homework and could tell us about so many of the artworks and artefacts in the museum. Very enjoyable

Well thought out tour. Lee shared her passion for art and cats without being over enthusiastic! She took her time moving around the rooms and explained the history behind the building very well.

Absolutely enjoyable experience. So much to see at the museum. Lee had so much information to share, and did a great job of showing us not only the art, but the resident kitties. So grateful to the owner for opening the location up just for us!

Such a fun, original, information packed tour at the cat museum! I'm allergic to rhem, but they are soooo cute. Appreciate Lee sharing this lush place with us. Looks like she made a new friend with Billy!
