About the tour

Between past and present, magic and religion, drama and comedy, the origins of masks date back to millennia ago and are rooted in humans' special desire to change their identities and plunge into a fantasy world. Graziano Viale has researched and studied the evolution of masks in the Mediterranean culture for many years conducting specific research on Phoenician-Punic ritual masks as well as traditional Sardinian masks, benefitting from fertile international contacts covering all art forms, and especially the European theatre - both classical and avant-garde. By now a much sought-after guest at various international festivals - including Avignon, Nancy, Bremen, Goslar, and Gerona - Viale is presently co-operating with Italian theatrical groups (Verona, Como, Belluno, Forlì…). In this tour, I'll show you the craft workshop of Graziano Viale, a skilful artist expert in the use of clay, wood, and leather. Translating his precious information we will understand how born the idea of a mask and how it is made. The tour is signed as 45 minutes format but the visit takes about 30 minutes. The remaining time will be dedicated to chat, questions and answers
