Terezin Big Fortress was built in the period 1780-1790 as a garrison town for 11 000 soldiers. The soldiers would live there with their families. On 24th November 1941 the fortress was turned into a ghetto for Jews on the order of Heydrich and it remained a ghetto until the 8th of May 1945. During the 3.5 years of its existence, 155 000 Jews including 10 000 children passed through its gates. Only 35 000 of them survived the war. On the tour we will walk through the former ghetto, we will visit the Museum of the Ghetto, the Hidden synagogue and the Krematorium. Learn more about Terezin's role in the final solution and hear the stories of people who were forced to live in it.
