About the tour

Whether you believe in ghosts or not, ghost stories have always haunted us. In the run up to Halloween we'll be taking a look at the eerie tales of Smithfield. Dominated by its ancient meat market, this hidden corner of the City was London’s execution site. Hundreds of 16th century martyrs died here, put to death by Henry VIII and, later, his Catholic daughter ‘Bloody’ Mary. William Wallace (Braveheart) was hung, drawn and quartered here. His was the first head to be displayed on a spike on London Bridge. Learn about these chilling stories, a 14th century plague pit, London’s most sensational 18th century haunting and a WW1 zeppelin raid. Join Mr Londoner if you dare...

I really enjoyed the evening on the virtual tour - it was so atmospheric as if I was really there. Antony is very engaging and brings you into the stories. I would definitely go on these again. It is great to be able to walk the cobbled streets of old historic London from my own living room! It is good to be able to interact and ask questions with the Guide. Also, with it being virtual you can hear what the Guide is saying which you may not be able to do if there were a lot of people on a physical tour. I am looking forward to going on another one soon and hopefully there will be some over Christmas?!

Antony was a fabulous guide!! He kept everyone thoroughly engaged virtually and genuinely tried to connect with everyone who signed in. Great combination of ghost stories and history! I'll definitely be going on another tour soon! Thanks so much for a great time and giving people a taste of travel while stuck at home!
