About the tour

Join us in on this popular walking trail in Karura Forest, which is an urban upland forest in the outskirts of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. What makes Karura so amazing? Well, it is one of the largest gazetted forests in the world that’s fully within city limits. So it’s nature at its best right in the heart of the hustle and bustle of a Nairobian’s life. And yes, you will be a full Nairobian after the tour- especially once you listen to the history, the culture, the vegetation and wildlife that all converge in this beautiful place. See how Nairobians unwind with family, or with exercise out in nature, and hear about Africa's first female Nobel Peace Prize Winner, and her connection with this enchanting forest. See you there!

Meet Claire

Whilst Claire is half French and half English by heritage, she is fully Nairobian by choice, and has been in Kenya for long enough to feel right at home in the city. She has lived and worked in six countries, and has always found adventures wherever she's gone: exploring the artistic and off-limits catacombs in Paris, exploring Mexico's coastline in the back of a pick-up truck, chasing alligators in Tanzania, or sky running in Kenya. But what is the common theme behind everything she does? Talking, sharing, and learning something new, so join her on her Kenyan adventures.

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We’re travelling to Nairobi with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you’ll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing content creator.

The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your content creator directly from Nairobi. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.

The majority of your tip goes directly to support the channel, while the rest helps Heygo continue to build a place that brings the world closer together.

I really did not find it all that interesting. Everything in the forest looked the same and did not see anything outstanding to grab my attention. But she was a good guide nevertheless.

Nature and culture rolled into one. It felt as if we were taking a stroll through the woods in the company of friends. Claire's personality and knowledge is such that I want to join her in all of her tours. Always different, never disappointing.

The tour wasn't at all what I was expecting. The walk in the park was so so. Claire mentioned a waterfall but didn't go there because of her bad connection. Her second person to come help her on the walk came 20 mins late. In my opinion, it just wasn't great. This will be my last time with Claire. Sorry, just being honest.

My second time doing this tour, and I loved it even more than the first time. So much beauty and nature, so much about life and society in Kenya, and two such well-informed and engaging presenters in Claire and Akumu.
