About the tour

Discover the rich history of the riverside in Shakespeare's home town. We will see how a thriving industrial area has been transformed into pleasant parks and gardens, where some of the world's most famous actors take to the stage, find out "what else" happened in 1492 and end at the beautiful medieval church where Shakespeare is buried.

Meet Ian

Hello and thanks for visiting. I’m Ian, a professionally qualified guide. I hold the Blue Badge, which is the UK’s highest tour guiding qualification and have many years’ experience guiding in both English and German. My passion is sharing places and stories with people from around the world, and helping them discover more about this country and particularly the Midlands, where I have lived for almost all my life. I have a friendly and informal style and always aim to bring history to life with anecdotes about people and events rather than just dry facts. I love the sense of community with Heygo and enjoy seeing the same people joining multiple tours. On all of my tours you can expect information, humour and friendly conversation. I want you to sit back, relax and enjoy the experience as you take a walk with your new friend in England. Wherever in the world you are from, I look forward to giving you the warmest of British welcomes.

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We’re travelling to Stratford-upon-Avon with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you’ll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing content creator.

The tour will last about 45 mins and will be live-streamed by your content creator directly from Stratford-upon-Avon. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.

The majority of your tip goes directly to support the channel, while the rest helps Heygo continue to build a place that brings the world closer together.

Ian is a fabulous tour guide. So calm. So friendly. So knowledgeable and interesting. He sets up wonderful post cards which I am finding is a true talent that not all guides have. Today I did a Stratford tour with him and I enjoyed it so much that I'm going to sign up for more of Stratford. I've also been to Birmingham and Cotswolds and Nottingham with him. I look forward to Ian's tours and I hope to meet him someday for a tour.
