About the tour

The Coppa della Perugina started in the 1930's as an international car race organized by the Perugina chocolate factory. Since the 1960's it is an oldtimer race reserved for cars from the 1920's and 1930's. The highlight of this event is the arrival and the exhibition of the cars on the main square of Perugia on Saturday 19th June. Disclaimer: due to weather or unforeseen events the arrival of the cars could be delayed...I will do my best to try to get a good timing and a good spot. I don't know anything about cars but will do my best to interview the owners on your behalf. NOTE this is the official public poster of the event: https://www.coppadellaperugina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/CDP2021-MANIFESTO-18-717x1024.png

Meet Patrizia-Umbria

Patrizia’s our archaeologist-turned-tour guide, who’s had so much fun guiding visitors around the green heart of Italy. Perugia's always ready to throw a surprise. Although the city's not very famous, it doesn't shy away from entertaining its visitors with its stories and breathtaking views. "Perugia during the Umbria Jazz festival is magical! Every day at noon, a New Orleans band marches up and down the main street to get people to dance and follow them to the different free concert venues. Lovely music, and magical atmosphere through the night!" she says. On her tours, you might catch a smatter of different languages - she's a polyglot who speaks 5 languages. "A funny incident was that on a very busy day, I was halfway through my tour in Perugia before it hit me that I was doing it in the wrong language and nobody had dared to interrupt me!" she laughs. “I always try to convey some typical Italian word or proverb ready to be used immediately. Normally by the end of the tour, everyone remembers it and who knows...continues to use it at home!” Her goal as a professional guide is still to surprise the visitors. She almost stumbled into the exciting space of guiding visitors around her city. When she was working as an archaeologist on excavation sites and museums, she enjoyed showing Perugia's beautiful landscape. "And then I got the chance to accompany groups throughout Europe, and decided being a guide was the profession where I could combine my different interests: history, languages and meeting people from all over the world," she quips. As Marcel Proust said: you don't always have to travel to new destinations but you have to look at them with new eyes.

I felt so sorry for Patrzia, as the cars left early and she was so concerned, but she saved the day and the tour was very interesting, and of course, as well as seeing some cars and motor bikes at the beginning, we saw a lot at the end too. Well done for going ahead with the tour and making it so interesting.

Loved seeing the classic cars, thank you for giving us a great tour even though the cars went on their tour before we joined you.

For not knowing anything about cars, Patrizia researched about who previously won these races, had pictures ready to show us. She came as prepared as possible, then the committee started presenting the cars 45 minutes prior to the scheduled time. She was told the cars would not be parked in the square for viewing because the drivers were going back to their hotels to shower & rest because it was so hot. Guess what, the owners DID park their cars for viewing. Patrizia handled everything like the true pro that she is & we enjoyed everything none the less! She told us up front she didn't know anything about cars, but by the end of.the tour, she could tell Fiats from Jaguars!! I am totally impressed by how quickly she absorbs information! Thank you Patricia for a fun, relaxing, informative tour with gorgeous cars!!!💟💟
