About the tour

This area of west Belfast is one that has been in the news for decades in reports and videos detailing the long conflict which was brought to an end in 1998 with the signing of the Belfast/ Good Friday Agreement. Let me show you how this area looks today, how the history of the road is reflected in the considerable artwork which has appeared over the years and how opinions of conflict not only in Northern Ireland but other trouble spots around the world are depicted in the murals along the Peace Wall.

My name is Rory and I am a qualified tour guide and a member of Tour Guides Northern Ireland. I have been involved in the Travel and Tourism industry for 35 years as a travel agent, a holiday representative abroad and a tour guide. I have worked with some of the biggest companies such as Thomas Cook, Airtours, Expedia and Titanic Belfast where I received an award for outstanding customer service from the CEO. I love my country and hope you can all join me on one of my tours of Belfast and I will share my knowledge and passion of my homeland with you.

What to expect

Get ready for something special. We’re travelling to Belfast with no passport, no plane ticket and no luggage. And yet you’ll experience all the sights, sounds and stories with just your laptop, favorite snack and an amazing content creator.

The tour will last about 60 mins and will be live-streamed by your content creator directly from Belfast. Forget about slideshows or pre-recorded videos, this is a live broadcast and anything can happen!

While on the tour you’ll be able to see a full screen video of your content creator and their surroundings, interact with them and other travellers through the live chat, see where you are in the world on a map and show your appreciation with a tip.

Why are they tip-supported?

We are running these tours on a tip-supported basis to make them as accessible as possible. They are free to join, but you have the option to leave a tip during the tour.

The majority of your tip goes directly to support the channel, while the rest helps Heygo continue to build a place that brings the world closer together.

Belfast is clearly still a city where both sides, unionist/loyalist and nationalist are sensitive. You could feel the tension as Rory walked along the Falls Road and Peace Wall, giving an objective view of the history of the conflict through the murals. It was intriguing, enlightening and incredibly sad. I only hope that peace continues here. Thank you to Rory for handling the topic with sensitivity and diplomacy and for teaching me things I’d not been made aware of before.
