Besides offering amazing sights and food, Lyon is also known as one of the most important centres of silk production in Europe. The 500 years-old tradition that secured Lyon's wealth and fame is still present in the city, and the knowledge of creating breathtakingly beautiful fabrics is passed on from fathers to sons. Eniko is fascinated by how people can still work on old looms or hand-paint the velour scarves, and she appreciates the pride and diligence of all who has contributed to the fame of this local product. On this tour, she will walk you through some backstreets of Old Lyon, give an insight into the unique beauty of silk manufacturing, and enter into two different workshops where the owners still use the most traditional technics. You will also hear about how silk got to France, what a silk moth is, and how this precious fabric is produced. By the end of the tour, you will know what made silk so highly valued and where to look for it when you come and visit Lyon.
A devoted tourism professional, Eniko's broad international experience includes teaching, translating, and developing tours in a number of countries in addition to directing her own company. Most importantly, though, she remains an ever-curious traveller. She loves peeking behind half-open doors, chatting with locals, and sharing le joie de vivre. She is passionate about exploring her adopted country, France and enthusiastic about showing around her favourite neighbourhoods in Lyon, Languedoc and Provence. Having lived in France for several years, she knows what is best to see yet can still view it with the eyes of a visitor.
