Siglufjörður glorious past and „Trapped“ In the nineteen-thirties, this was the „herring capital“ of the world and for decades the internationally most famous Icelandic town – the Icelandic equivalent of „Klondike“. Strong reference to the rich past and many promising companies operating. Here immense wealth was created during herring fishing seasons during the first half of the 20th century. Exports from this one port accounted at times for up to 20% of total national exports. This was the place where young people went to get away from farms – and make money. Also famous as the setting of the TV series „Trapped“ This was the town where the young generation flocked then to break free from farm life in rural Iceland and so many of them found their wings here.
