About the tour

Why not come for a walk with Sean & Tiernan along the streets that the Pilgrims follow reaching the spectacular Cathedral of Santiago! Santiago de Compostela is a must-see when you visit, Galicia, Spain. It is practically impossible, to sum up all the history, legends, and monuments of Santiago on a virtual tour, but we will give you a chance to see up close the old town streets and the exterior of the Cathedral visiting all the Plazas (Squares). We might even have a surprise in store going right up the Holy Door that opens up only on a Holy Year (Xacobeo) which is the case for this year 2021 (and 2022 has been extended due to Covid). The Holy Year occurs when St. James Day, 25th of July falls on a Sunday. Learn with us the rituals that pilgrims do when arriving at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Ending our virtual tour in a park with a panoramic view of the old town and the towers of the Cathedral. What better way to end a visit to this monumental city!

Meet your local guide

Sean

Far from just reading out of tour guide books, Sean O’Rourke has immersed himself in his adopted country (Galicia, Spain) and truly wants you to understand and enjoy its culture. He personally guides their specialized small group historic, gourmet food & wine tours in Galicia. Sean is well versed in the various topics covered on the tour such as Celtic Hill-forts and music, the religious pilgrimage to Santiago, Galician-Roman-Celtic history, wine making, wine tasting, Galician modern & traditional cuisine, etc. Sean’s travels have taken him throughout Europe and Britain extensively. His interest into the Spanish culture has given him the ability to speak fluently in Spanish. Sean would be glad to translate and help with some basic vocabulary while on your vacation in Galicia, Spain. One of Sean’s many pastimes is the study of Ancient Celtic history, Galicia and it’s connection to the other Celtic nations (Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany and Isle of Man) has been his latest project and would love to share with you all the legends and stories of Galicia. Sean is Canadian, but of Scottish & Irish roots and his wife Angie is Galician, their goal is to show visitors an insider’s point of view of “GALICIA, SPAIN’S HIDDEN CELTIC PARADISE” "

Sean has been guiding since Sep 1999

I have had to cancel my Camino trip for 2 years running now due to the Pandemic. So I thought this trip to Santiago would be good. It was amazing, gave me so much information about the Camino and the significance of the scallop shell. Sean and his son also took us into the Cathedral via the door that is only open during the Holy Year, which has whetted my appetite for the Camino even more. It was a wonderful tour with wonderful Tour Leaders xx

Loved it! I appreciated the good quality/steady image, clear organized pacing of walk and info, historical background along the way, stopping to see some details like food and shops. Having your ‘guide in training‘ with you was fun

I enjoyed Sean’s tour of Santiago and his knowledge about the pilgrims was most interesting. The highlight was entering the cathedral and virtually being inside was very inspiring. Thank you Sean.
