About the tour

If it wasn't for the infamous Witch Trials of 1692, Salem would be known for its Golden Age of Sail when Salem was the richest city in America and home to American's first millionaire. We'll explore Salem's Maritime National Park, Derby Wharf, The Custom House, The Friendship, and sites related to Salem's famous author, Nathaniel Hawthorne including the House of Seven Gables. And as with all things Salem, legends of hauntings.

Interesting tour, however, as the history of this town was totally new to me, it was a little confusing at times. In my ignorance, I had never heard of the author Nathaniel Hawthorne, and the frequent referral to the house of seven gables meant nothing to me; until we learnt it was the title of a book he had written. So maybe I needed a pre-school level of history tour!!!
