About the tour

Saqsaywaman is an impressive Incan fortress that was built by more than 20,000 men up in the mountains. The Incas were known for building some of the most finely crafted stone structures from any ancient civilization: impressive yet simple and in harmony with the natural landscape. As the largest and most impressive archaeological ruins on the outskirts of Cusco, Peru, Saqsaywaman (hilariously pronounced as 'sexy woman') was built by the Incas from massive stones weighing as much as 130 tons. It was used for Incan ceremonies and became a critical military site in the battle with the Spanish in 1536. It is now a recognized UNESCO World Heritage site. As we walk around this sacred Incan site together, you’ll learn more about the citadel’s history and purpose. Admire the perfect constructions, designs and shapes with me and I’ll explain more about its symbolism.

A very interesting visit to see the ladies preparing their sheep’s fleece for spinning and the natural dyes used. Mike was so good at interpreting the ladies language and as a spinner and dyer myself I was fascinated by the whole trip. Well done.
