About the tour

For those who have joined the tour in this elegant square in a day light, the night visit will be of great pleasure. The Square is the gem of the capital of the powerful empire of Safavids 400 years ago, and all those blue tiles, domes, minarets, arches and the place are embracing and mysterious, shining in the light of night. We will walk in a square where for centuries kings of Safavids enjoyed watching polo games, marches and celebratory events, and under the arches the artists and craftsmen made masterpieces of arts and handcrafts.

As much as I enjoyed Leila's two daytime tours of this same location, one focusing on handicrafts, I do agree with her that it's even more spectacular at night. A magnificent world heritage site, with comprehensive but tasteful illuminations, reflections on water, and even clear skies and a half moon thrown in to complete the postcards. Leila even gave us a unique view from a usually-private upper room containing a small museum. I actually felt the museum was probably worth a tour in its own right, as I would have liked to know more about the exhibits. Another time, maybe?
