I’ve taken you on my bike around Rotterdam by day, but this time we will explore the second city of The Netherlands by night. Once again, we will start at the ultra-modern Central Station, completed in 2014 and make our way along the well lit, tree-lined roads to the City Hall. The area around the City Hall was practically destroyed by nazi bombs in ww2. Then we make our way over to the Laurens Church and the stunning Markthal with its incredible murals across the ceiling. As we leave the market area we will cycle beneath the cube houses and towards the old harbour. This is where Rotterdam really shines at night as the modern skyscrapers pierce the skyline with their brightly illuminated edifices and their reflections shimmer like diamonds onto the Maas below. We will cycle over the elegantly lit Swan bridge (Erasmus) balancing gracefully across the banks of the river, connecting the port of Rotterdam to the rest of the city. We will pass by the unusual looking Lego brick style Rotterdam building and carry on towards the port of Rotterdam and the famous Hotel NY, the departure point for many who left the Netherlands in days gone by.
Stephan is a real Dutchie, he was born in Delft (the city of Vermeer), grown up in Gouda (the cheese city), studied in Leiden (city of Rembrandt) and he lived in Rotterdam (the harbour city) before moving to our capital Amsterdam in 2006. After a career in technology as an Online Strategist, he decided to leave behind the corporate world to start guiding visitors of Amsterdam and started his own private tour agency, Amsterdam Experiences. That’s when he discovered that walking and cycling around the city with international visitors is a lot more fun than a desk job! As a guide, Stephan loves to show his virtual guests the hidden gems of Amsterdam through the eyes of a local. He has a passion for telling stories about Dutch history and culture. Stephan is very enthusiastic about the Netherlands and also guides tours in Delft, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Gouda, Leiden and Den Hague. Stephan’s tours cover a wide range of topics, whether that be sensitively tackling difficult subjects, such as Anne Frank and Jewish history of Amsterdam. However, he is equally comfortable being spontaneous, whether visiting goats in a goat farm to riding his orange flowerbike around with the flowerbike man himself. Stephan also now has tours in Belgium, covering Antwerp, Bruges and Ghent. So join him on the bike or by foot, and see the highlights of the Netherlands or even perhaps Belgium.

Rotterdam by Night was beautiful. The lighting of buildings and structures make it perfect for a night time bike ride with Stephan.

Rotterdam by night was an experience - many high rises, modern buildings, beautiful lights and a knowledgable, professional, personable guide that introduced me to yet another city in the Netherlands.
