About the tour

Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River has served as a serene crossroads of leisure, industry and pop culture for 200 years. This stretch of water just west of Center City tells a tale of Philly's meteoric rise as an engineering mecca with it's creation of the Water Works; a complex so revered at the time, it ended up on the Monopoly game board. Olympians have rowed along these rolling banks since the early 1900s. Two of the champions belonged to the Kelly family, who lived just upriver, although their royal actress relative Grace Kelly was never fond of the sport herself. And it was in 1976 when a down-and-out boxer named Rocky Balboa charged up the iconic steps of the nearby Philadelphia Museum of Art while training for his fictional heavyweight bout. Today, these sites are not just preserved, they are enjoyed on a daily basis by locals and tourists alike. Join our expert guide on a beautiful stroll and view the stunning collection of 1800's rowing clubhouses known as Boathouse Row, which stands just upriver from the Greek-revival remnants of Philly's Water Works. Around the corner, the colossal Philadelphia Museum of Art stands atop its perch overlooking the city, its 72 "Rocky" steps cascading down to the Parkway below. End the tour with a breathtaking view of the City of Brotherly Love.

Great info and views of the city. Getting between some of Philly's sites take a lot of walking, and this condensed this part of the city very well. Loved the run up the art museum steps.
