About the tour

Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park is the only Danxia National Geological Park in China as well as the only Danxia landform and colorful hilly village complex in China. It is listed as 25 dream travel destinations in the world by a world-renowned website and a virtual treat for our HeyGo Voyagers. Forbes calls it, “Earth’s Paint Palette,” and a “geological wonder of the world!” Zhangye Danxia’s landform wonders began to form over 6 million years ago to become a visual feast for our eyes today. Its array of colors look like a series of rainbows were painted over the tops of rolling mountains. All colors from reddish-brown, blues, and yellows set off each other and show off their respective spirits under the bright sky. Located in the Linze area, Zhangye Danxia landform is 40 km from Zhangye city. It is comprised of the hilly areas of the northern foothills of Qilian Mountain with an altitude of between 2000 and 3800 meters. Zhangye Qilian Mountain Danxia is mainly composed of red gravel, sandstone, and mudstone. It has obvious marks of arid and semi-arid climate, which is shown by crossbedding, steep walls, vertical joints, and colorful colors. Its features were mainly developed in the horizontal or gently dipping red stratum from the Jurassic to Tertiary periods. Join our guide Lee as we explore the incredible sights and history of this area. Unfortunately, some tour areas have limited signal quality that we can’t control. We apologize if this happens and always use the feedback to look for better routes.

Interesting and informative. Obviously the colours would have been more striking if the sun had been shining but - that is life! Many thanks.
