Presqu’île means peninsula in French, but in Lyon, the word is used in reference to the city centre, developed in the 19th century. The area has been inhabited for over two thousand years, and the streets and squares, shops, and homes went through many changes during the long centuries. On this tour, with your guide, you will hop from square to square and hear about how the city changed while walking by beautiful Hausmann-style buildings constructed in the 1800s. Eniko will start this tour from Europe's largest pedestrian square, take you to Lyon's busiest shopping streets and charming, small squares. She will tell you why a theatre building needs balconies and talk about some famous, Lyon-born personalities. In this part of the city, only a few streets are dating back to earlier times, but you will see some of those while strolling through the printers' street and pass by some 15th-century buildings. Your visit to the city's busiest district will conclude at Lyon's second-largest square, in front of the beautiful Bartholdi fountain and the magnificent building of the City Hall.
A devoted tourism professional, Eniko's broad international experience includes teaching, translating, and developing tours in a number of countries in addition to directing her own company. Most importantly, though, she remains an ever-curious traveller. She loves peeking behind half-open doors, chatting with locals, and sharing le joie de vivre. She is passionate about exploring her adopted country, France and enthusiastic about showing around her favourite neighbourhoods in Lyon, Languedoc and Provence. Having lived in France for several years, she knows what is best to see yet can still view it with the eyes of a visitor.
