About the tour

Poulnabrone is a neolithic dolmen or portal tomb, dating from approximately 3500BC. It was built 2000 years before Stonehenge and 1000 years before the pyramids. Hear about the people who lived in this region of Ireland, home to a large number of ancient tombs and relics. Find out how they built the tomb, and why. We will trace the connections between these early inhabitants and those who farm the landscape today. We will explore up close the features of the limestone karst landscape that surrounds it, an area of unparalleled biodiversity, with its many wildflowers and plants.

Janet has worked as a tour guide in the Burren region in the west of Ireland since April 2002, spending every Summer guiding people around this amazing protected landscape. Great to see something of the Burden. Heard about it but yet to get there. Janet knew so much and eager to explain the geology, and the ancient history, and the myths and legends. Fascinating tour. Thank you Janet!

Lovely tour. Janet is very steady of foot to get so close as the landscape is not very walker friendly. The views are outstanding and Janet is very knowledgeable.
