The beautiful city of Potsdam just outside of Berlin was chosen to be the royal hideout from city life hundreds of years ago and you can still feel and see the influence of the kings and emperors all over the place. Join Arja on a tour through the old city centre which also happens to be the new city centre and even though that sounds quite contradictive once you see it for yourself it will make complete sense. We will walk the old town square with its magnificent buildings from the past and present, see the old and new city palace and uncover why there is an Egyptian monument right in the middle of the square. Past the old royal horse stables we will head to one of the most controversial construction sites of Potsdam and take a peek at the old town trench and the reason why so many people want to live in this picturesque city today. Along the way you will also get to see some examples of the influence Eastern German post war rebuilding had on the city and how that made the wounds of the war visible until today. Get away from the hustle and bustle of Berlin and enjoy the serenity of Potsdam with Arja and Lulu.
Welcome to Berlin, I'm Arja and I have been a full-time tour guide for 14 years now. Berlin is my playground as a studied historian, culture enthusiast and big city aficionada, and I am looking forward to sharing the stories of this great city with you. No matter if you are in Berlin for the first time and want to see all the most important sites or if you have been here before and are looking for stories and places off the beaten path, I will take you anywhere you want to go, because even the most remote corners of Berlin have a story to tell. With my granddad and mum being from former Eastern Berlin I feel a strong connection to Berlin even though I grew up in a small town in Western Germany. But as I was always drawn to the bigger places I first left for university in Hamburg where I got my M. A. in History and American literature, then for a year away in New Zealand and then to work as a tour guide all over Europe showing young people the most exciting places of this continent. Berlin was a natural choice for me continuing the family story in this city which was interrupted by the Stasi, the wall and the separation of Germany in 1954. I am looking forward to showing you this amazingly intruiging city in the virtual world and maybe one day in person. And of course Lulu is always on my and your tail...

Thanks for another interesting tour.

It was an interesting and entertaining tour, especially so with her dog in tow. Unfortunately with the strong wind it was almost impossible to hear her at times. All in all she did well in engaging with her audience.
