About the tour

That’s a tall order in just 45 minutes! But the goal here is to tide you over until you can visit in person, right? Place d’Armes has had many functions over the centuries: military square, pumping station, streetcar terminal, and now a gathering place and antechamber to the jewel of Old Montreal, Notre Dame Basilica. Fran will not only present the monument at its centre and diverse architectural styles surrounding it, she’ll also explain how the square’s layout is certainly intentional with respect to representing a balance between the city’s two dominant cultures: French and English. Join her on this historical journey in romantic Old Montreal. À bientôt!

Meet Françoise Bâby

Françoise Bâby

The two most frequently asked questions Fran, a certified guide, hears on her tours are whether she is a native Montrealer and what her favourite “thing” about her city is. The answer to the first question is “yes”, and the answer to the second is “multiculturalism”, which, in her view, best defines Montreal. Sharing her enthusiasm and bragging about Montreal with visitors are what it’s all about. Although she has a penchant for great food (her mother is French after all!), history and architecture, what she enjoys most about guiding is the interaction with participants on her tours! Her wish is that you come away not so much with a tour or a lecture, but with a memorable experience.
