About the tour

Peruvian music is amongst the most emotive, most diverse, and most colourful music anywhere in the world. It is a fusion of sounds from the country’s Andean, Spanish, and African roots. You may already be familiar with the pan flute, but there are many more traditional and unique instruments that I would like to introduce to you, like the Donkey Jawbone. During this tour, you will learn more about the traditional Peruvian music, its roots, type of lyrics and distinctive instruments, as well as costumes, with the help of a local Peruvian band named Sonora Patronal. They are a group of musicians representing different parts of the country who seek to unite people through music. They will then also demonstrate and perform some different styles of traditional music for us which should truly be something special to experience!

Mike is great, and so was the band, but my internet was spotty, so my experience of the music was not optimum.

What a fun Sunday afternoon enjoying the sounds of the Sonora Cusco band. I loved how everyone laughed, there was some dancing and I enjoyed your explanation of the type of music and the instruments played.
