Nestled in the woods in eastern Netherlands sits Paleis 't Loo, the holiday palace and hunting grounds of the Dutch royal family. The delightful baroque gardens of Paleis Het Loo were created for the pleasure and entertainment of the William III & Mary II (King and Queen of the Netherlands, Britain and Ireland) and has been used by the Dutch royal family ever since. These classical Dutch gardens were designed to impress anyone who visited the royals with gardens filled with fountains, statues and many historic plants, all laid out in symmetrical ornamental flower beds and terraces. The garden has an abundance of statues from Roman and Greek mythology and at the centre is Venus, the goddess of love. Together we will explore the gardens of this pleasure palace, that entertained and delighted generations of royals. We will discover the richly adorned gilded fountains. But also beautifully shaped hedges, amazing flowers and even some modern art from one of my favourite architects Daniel Liebeskind. If there is still some time we can go inside the stables, built for Queen Wilhelmina to house her horses, royal carriages and cars. The stable complex itself was designed to for up to 88 horses and some of the stables are still in use today.
Stephan is a real Dutchie, he was born in Delft (the city of Vermeer), grown up in Gouda (the cheese city), studied in Leiden (city of Rembrandt) and he lived in Rotterdam (the harbour city) before moving to our capital Amsterdam in 2006. After a career in technology as an Online Strategist, he decided to leave behind the corporate world to start guiding visitors of Amsterdam and started his own private tour agency, Amsterdam Experiences. That’s when he discovered that walking and cycling around the city with international visitors is a lot more fun than a desk job! As a guide, Stephan loves to show his virtual guests the hidden gems of Amsterdam through the eyes of a local. He has a passion for telling stories about Dutch history and culture. Stephan is very enthusiastic about the Netherlands and also guides tours in Delft, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Gouda, Leiden and Den Hague. Stephan’s tours cover a wide range of topics, whether that be sensitively tackling difficult subjects, such as Anne Frank and Jewish history of Amsterdam. However, he is equally comfortable being spontaneous, whether visiting goats in a goat farm to riding his orange flowerbike around with the flowerbike man himself. Stephan also now has tours in Belgium, covering Antwerp, Bruges and Ghent. So join him on the bike or by foot, and see the highlights of the Netherlands or even perhaps Belgium.

As always, Stephan was a lovely guide! He's knowledgeable about the places he visits, and shares the info in a way that makes us all feel like, "Wow! We just learned something worthy of knowing!" Stephan is sweet, personable, and charming. I will continue to tour with him as often as possible!
