About the tour

What brings life to the streets and squares of towns? Of course live people, but they come and go like air and sometimes they are missing completely - like during the corona lockdowns. What remains, are the statues with their stories, true or mythical, sad or funny, inspiring or mind-bending. Bratislava is not an exception. Some statues witnessed good and bad times of the city for the whole centuries, while others are younger than you and were added to the picturesque Old Town streets more recently to emphasize the relaxing atmosphere. And what will you not be surprised about? Quite a few of them lack any clothes. Naked boys, girls, men and women have always inspired artists to make their works more provocative and attractive. Many were admired, but also brought disputes, objections and contempt. A challenge: could you find the smallest naked man of the city?

Meet Braňo and Peter

Braňo and Peter

Braňo is a local born in the Slovak capital Bratislava. Together with his brother Peter, they became popular by guiding in their classic as well as crappy communist-era Škoda cars since 2010. Their company Authentic Slovakia also offers bike tours, wine tours and tailor-made experiences with a focus on individuals and small groups. His parents worked in the tourism industry since early 1980’s during the socialist Czechoslovakia, organizing trips to Eastern Bloc countries in the state-run travel agency Slovakoturist. During the 1990’s, American couples visited their household regularly for a week thanks to his parents’ membership in the Friendship Force association that organized international host stays. Thanks to this background and living abroad, he was encouraged to guide foreign travellers in Slovakia. Braňo got a degree in geography and he is amazed how Bratislava has been changing after 1989, so the focus of his tours is on real life, local stories and the turbulent 20th century. His tours surprise, amaze and take you also where tourists usually don’t go. He will be happy to show you Bratislava and Slovakia like a local!

A wonderful tour of an interesting city, with a fantastic guide. Peter is personable and inviting and full of vast knowledge, and shares a perfect blend of history and culture and architecture. Really enjoyed all the statues, many of which are quite whimsical. Thank you, Peter!
