About the tour

It’s time to explore Odessa’s second historic district known as the Greek quarter. Today known as the “quiet city center”, this area was populated by the city’s craftsmen in the eighteen hundreds. When Odessa was less than 20 years old, the governor allocated a territory in the second quarter for the new market, which became called the New Bazar. Although today it’s the oldest market in the city, it’s still called the New Bazar. Let’s walk through the New Bazar and see what goods the farmers sell, what fruits and vegetables are in season and how locals shop. I’ll share with you insights into how we shop on the markets (it's called "do a bazar") and what the local specialties are. The live stream tour proceeds with a stroll along the old streets of the second historic quarter. We’ll go into old backyards, which are keyholes into the city’s past and look at the architecture of the old buildings. Looking forward to taking you on another Odessa tour!

Meet OlgaOdessaWalks

Olga's journey to guiding and establishing Odessa Walks started in 1998 when she left her home country and went to California to attend a business school. What made her move across the ocean back then? First off, interest to see the world and desire to explore her career options. And while studies were certainly important, traveling was her real passion. After obtaining an MBA degree she has worked in California, London and Moscow. Finally, in 2011 she made a decision to return to Odessa, her anchor city. Why? To build something of her own, based on what she loves most: meeting people, this amazing city and its rich heritage. As a result, Odessa Walks Ltd. came to live in 2011. Since then she's been managing the business and providing in-person tours. Since the fall of 2020 she's been creating online Odessa experiences.

I have always felt a soul connection to Odessa so it was wonderful to be part of this lovely tour! Olga made me feel as though I was right there with her in the historical quarter and at the new bazaar. I liked her attention to detail without going overboard. Look forward to more of her tours!

Interesting. I expected more of produce but, I guess, the tour took place towards their closing time. Olga showed great tact and discretion in not filming the vendors but only their products. Thank you. Sorry, I left early because it was hard on an empty stomach! Yom Kippur fast today. Thank you, Olenka.
