About the tour

This tour starts on Elm Hill, one of Norwich's most picturesque streets, passes a medieval friary and the city's oldest thatched building, before heading along ancient Holmstrete (now Princes Street) to Tombland, the original Anglo-Scandinavian Market Place. Hear the story of Nurse Edith Cavell and the origins of the 15th centrury Erpingham Gate; look at the Samson and Hercules and the Maids Head Hotel, before heading into the upper Cathedral Close and view the fabulous Norman Norwich Cathedral and hear about Julian of Norwich.

Paul Dickson Tours

I am a Geordie from the North East of England, but have lived and worked in Norfolk for more than 30 years. I began doing guided tours for the Maids Head Hotel in Norwich in 2013. The hotel is one of the oldest in the country dating back to the the mid 13th century. Then I trained as a City of Norwich Tourist Guide from September 2013 to July 2014 and now run a range of in person tours in Norwich and the Norfolk Broads.

What to expect

Paul is an excellent guide. He passes on a lot of interesting information and is very knowledgeable. He also interacts well with the chat comments and answers questions and is very accommodating when people ask to see things in greater detail or close up. I really enjoyed this tour and would recommend it to others.
