About the tour

Few cities in Europe can boast of a monumental patrimony comparable to Seville’s. In this walk, your guide Nicolas will show the most impressive buildings this city has to offer, starting with the Cathedral of Seville, one of the largest temples in the Christian world. Built in the 15th century upon the ruins of the great Almohad mosque, the Cathedral was an unparalleled achievement of Gothic architecture, which took the technical possibilities of this style to their absolute limit. Next to it stands the Giralda, one of the most graceful and iconic towers in Europe. Nicolas will then explore with you the Archivo de Indias, a masterpiece of the Spanish Renaissance which today houses the largest collection of documents related to the conquest of the Americas, followed by the Royal Alcazar, a wonderful example of the Mudejar style, a blend of Christian and Muslim influences. We’ll finish at the Council House, a 16th century building that embodies the imperial ambitions of Spain at the time of Charles V. Join Nicolas in this in-depth exploration of Seville’s monumental architecture!

Meet your local guide

In Seville was he born, a pleasant city, Famous for oranges and women—he Who has not seen it will be much to pity, So says the proverb—and I quite agree Well pity no more, for Nicolas is here to show the wonders of Seville. Like Byron’s Don Juan, he was born and raised by the mighty Guadalquivir, under the shadow of the Giralda. A life-long lover of old books and obscure maps, he traveled the world from Lisbon to Philippines in his younger years, studying the history of the Spanish empire in the Pacific Ocean. He then came back home to sunny Seville and took up the ancient art of story-telling, entertaining travelers from all around the world with tales about poet-kings and honey thieves, orange trees and Manila shawls, lost libraries and wayward nuns. Join him as he guides you through the narrow streets of Seville’s Old Quarter and discover the light and music of this unforgettable city!
