About the tour

Monterosso is the largest village of the Cinque Terre National Park, and according to the meaning of "large" for this area is considered the Riviera of the Cinque Terre. Together with Vernazza is the most ancient village and is dominated by a Cappuccini Monastery where nowadays only the brave Padre Renato lives and takes care of the entire building and its beautiful gardens. Monterosso is divided into two parts one is "Monterosso" the old village XI century, the other one is "Fegina", the modern part, developed when the train station was built in early XX century. Is the only village with a beach, or at least what can be defined in this way for this rocky coast and for this reason is the favorite place for families and young people. Monterosso was famous for its anchovies, for its lemon and still today you can see local people waiting for the fishermen coming back with buckets full of anchovies during the month of June, to ensure they get the very fresh ones. As per Italian tradition is also a very religious village and here two brotherhoods live together embodying the same traditions of the past. Each one has its own Oratory and they are very jealous and proud of their glorious past. A nice walk along the beach shows us also some evidence of world war II when the village was occupied by the Germans. After this walk and some stunning views we will arrive in the old village, the "real" Monterosso where we have the chance to visit the church of St. John the Baptist with the most beautiful rosette windows of the entire Liguria and the oratory of the black a real "must-see". Monterosso, the red mountain, from where comes that name? Join the tour and you will know why... is not only about a red mountain close by.

Emilia did her first tour in this particular location for Heygo, and it was great. This part of Italy is unlike any other, and it was so enjoyable as we let Emilia do all the walking and snapped away at our postcards.

This felt like we were walking along with Emilia’s family, and I loved that. Emilia gets into the hidden nooks of all the Cinque Terre towns she visits and this one is no exception. Fantastic tour whether you’re planning to go, think that you want to go, or wonder what all the fuzz about Cinque Terre is about. Book, enjoy, and keep looking out for Emilia’s wonderful tours.
