About the tour

This lesser-known suburb on the south side of Tower Bridge has a varied and fascinating history- from being an island for monks to being the heart of London's industry in the 18th century. And now, from fashionable coffee shops to Millwall FC, Bermondsey does glamour and grit side-by-side. It's also where Charley lives. On this tour, she'll take you on her 'lockdown walk' from her street to the riverside showcasing the small businesses and hidden walkways that made her fall even deeper in love with this unsung hero 'sauf' of the river.

Meet your local guide

London is a potpourri of different cultures - more than a third of the city's population is foreign-born. Charley fell in love with London as a teenager and always enjoyed showing her city to others. Her first job out of University was guiding on the open-top buses. And since then, there has been no turning back. After 6 years of guiding across major tour companies (EF, BBC, and secret food tours), she decided to kickstart her own venture. On her tours, you might just find yourself bumping into a surprise. "I had a lookalike of Prince William on my bus! People thought it was the real one," she laughs. The surprises don't stop there. "I introduce people to landlords of my favourite pubs and prioritize family-owned local business over the popular chain businesses," Charley quips. For Charley, drinking in the Beefeater's secret pub within the Tower of London features as one of her best experiences in the city. She's wearing multiple hats, working part-time selling ham and cheese at Borough Market (London's oldest and best food market), while studying to be a psychotherapist. Whoever said you can't have it all?

Charley's tours always have the unexpected in them. This time it was participation in a biathlon: part bike ride, part walking tour. Seeing the sights through a local's eyes of a lesser known part of London was definitely interesting. And a bonus of seeing the Tower Bridge open - even if I had to squint. 😄

What a talented tour guide!! Great depth of knowledge and sharing this whilst cycling! An area I had not really visited so it was interesting to see the nooks and crannies and get the local history that would normally be overlooked. Thanks Charley!
