About the tour

While São Paulo enjoys a reputation as Brazil’s financial engine, and Rio takes the trophy for perhaps the most beautiful city in the world, Bahia is best known for its vibrant culture. One local expression perfectly reflects the artistic verve of Bahians: Here people aren't born, they premiere." (https://www.nationalgeographic.com/culture/article/bahia-brazil-african-treasure-other-side-atlantic) Time to see the very local places in Bahia. The precise location will be a surprise, I will always choose a place or event that is very local, with zero or just a few tourists around. Of we may be in a very touristic place but I will show you how locals see that place or a local fact about it. 10 years ago, I started working with tourism showing students of Portuguese, the real Salvador in Bahia. I created the "Like a Sotero" tours - tours that are focus on real and local life. If you are just interested in "beautiful" views, maybe this is not the tour for you. However, if you are a traveler that likes to explore real-life in the destinations of your vacation, this is a good tour to book.

My work is to make your days incredible in Bahia. I am Asian-Afro-Brazilian, born in Salvador in the 1970's and working as a tour guide since 2011, studied Law in Sao Paulo and Language Studies, but now I am 100% working as a tour guide. As an independent traveler, I understands the needs for a real and safe experience in my hometown. I love Brazil and I am blessed to live and work in Bahia. I try to work with tailor- made tours and make you feel home in Brazil, with the best tourist attractions but at the same time with the local experience. I will be happy to guide you in Portuguese, English or Spanish in Bahia. My tops tours tailor made are: Gastronomy Experience, Afro Heritage, Favela Tour, Reconcavo Baiano (01 hour from Salvador) and By night with PubCrawl

You did an amazing job with this tour, Sayuri! I enjoyed seeing the life on the beach and your explanations along with it - very good preparation for my stay in Brasil next year (I hope). Thanks for coming up with this concept - I will definitely join you again for it!

We just stayed in one spot all the time so it was a bit of a narrow view of the place. She did give us some interesting local facts but not a lot of information, and was a bit repetitive.

As soon as you tune into some of Sayuri's tours, you will find her eating (LOL!) She says Bahians love to eat and love to share, so she spends time telling us just what's on the plate. It makes the opening of the tour so friendly and personal, just as her smile does. This is a guide you want to hug before the tour even begins! Very interesting to learn more about Salvador Bahia and local life with Sayuri. Her passion for the country and its people are so evident and we see the country through her eyes. Everyone knows her, so there are plenty of smiles and greetings all the way. For a casual, relaxed tour that makes you feel like a local, sign up for one of Sayuri's town tours. Each is different, so you never know where you will go and who you'll see. Sayuri must like surprises, and surprising her guests. A fantastic guide!
