About the tour

Karl-Marx-Allee formerly know as Stalin-Allee is one of the most iconic streets in former East Berlin and one of the first and biggest building projects following WWII. Built in for Berlin non-typical "sugar baker style" the wide avenue is home to thousands of Berliners, shops and cultural institutions. It also was the representative place for military parades and political photo ops during Eastern German times. And whilst everyone in Berlin knows about the uprising of the 17th of June 1953 and there is even a street named after that date it was really here on Karl-Marx-Allee one day earlier that the unrest began. Take a walk with me along this nearly 3km long street, have a look at the amazing architecture and hear the stories of life in East Berlin, the events which unfolded along this street and how it is all going today.
