Tibetans consider the Jokhang Temple as the center of the world and is also a UNESCO site as part of the Potala Palace. This historic Tibetan Buddhist monastery was founded in 647 A.D, was built by the Tibetan king Songtsan Gampo and is the earliest civil structure building in Tibet., The temple holds a supreme position in Tibetan Buddhism and combines the architectural styles of Tibet, Tang, Nepal, and India to become the classical model of Tibetan religious architecture. Nearby Barkhor Street was originally a small path to Jokhang Temple, but year by year has become a diverse culture center street and thoroughfare to provide accommodation and refreshment for believers or merchants on pilgrimages. Many vendors, pilgrims, and nomads from Mongolia, Handi, Kashmir, Nepal, Bhutan, India and other regions gathered here. The Turning Road in Barkhor Street means "central circle" in Tibetan. When the specific time of the “Turning” in the evening arrives, the people of all beliefs suddenly seem to receive a silent order and begin to strictly follow this circular road in a clockwise direction as pilgrimage. It’s quite a sight! Please follow your guide to experience this beautiful, inspiring site.

Completely blown away by this tour! We visited a traditional clothes shop which I found fascinating and then entered the temple compound. It was beautifully presented by Cassie and Pam.
