Known as the birthplace of the Incas, as well as the world’s highest navigable lake, Lake Titicaca has a rich history and surviving living culture - including the man-made floating islands of the Uros community. These islands are situated on the Peruvian side of the lake close to Puno (the main city on the lakeshore). Besides the islands themselves, all the houses, boats, etc are constructed out of reeds from the local totora plant. There really is no other place like it on earth, and its traditions and lifestyle has been preserved for over hundreds of years! During this virtual tour we will be visiting the Uros community as they demonstrate to us their traditions and their reed-made homes, and take us on a short boat ride.

Mike takes us to another remote location on this tour. It was fascinating to learn how the man-made islands are constructed. Learning about the daily life of the islanders was also interesting and humbling. And the craftwork - simply superb! I wish these people a quick recovery from the impact of the pandemic and thank Mike for enabling this insight into their lives. 😊❤

Mike gave an excellent tour of the island in Titicaca. Since we have been there, it reminded us of the unique culture. He was very patient with answering questions from viewers.
