Hot springs are an intimate part of Japanese culture and tradition. Thanks to its overabundance of active volcanoes in Japan, there are over 3,000 hot spring resorts and 28,000 hot spring sources where mineral-rich waters bubble up. A 3-hour train ride from Tokyo, Kusatsu is situated at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level in the mountains and is one of Japan's most famous hot spring resorts. Kusatsu is blessed with large volumes of high-quality hot spring water that is said to cure every illness but loves sickness! Come join Eriko as she shares the heart of Japanese hot spring culture while exploring the traditional hot spring town.
Eriko has been sharing her love of Japanese culture with people around the globe since 2017. In her words, Japan is beautiful, unique, and weird all at the same time! She's been lucky to have traveled to dozens of amazing countries and she got a chance to live overseas, in Australia and Canada, for a couple of years. Being exposed to other cultures has given her a new lens to look at her hometown and its traditions. Her great-grandfather was a kimono craftsman in Tokyo, and today she is honoured to wear the kimonos that were passed down through generations. She is looking forward to exploring Japan and sharing a smile with you!

Fascinating to see how the ancient cooling of hot springs water works so that it can be distributed to the various onsens. Enjoyed Fall colors as well.
